The remote village of Tomintoul is set within the beautiful Cairngorms National Park, and at 1170 ft. is the highest in the Highlands.
Firmly on the Speyside malt whisky trail, this lovely stone-built village was created in the 18th century by the Duke of Gordon to house workers on his estate. There is a local museum in the centre which gives more information on the fascinating history of Tomintoul and the surrounding area.
Now part of the Glenlivet Crown Estate, this is an incredibly scenic area perfect for walking, hiking and cycling. There is an information office in the village with displays about the estate, and rangers on hand to assist with enquiries.
The nearby Lecht ski centre offers outdoor activities in both winter and summer, and no trip to the area would be complete without a visit to the world-famous Glenlivet distillery.
