Neath Port Talbot is a Welsh county stretching from the wild and beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park down to the coast at Swansea Bay.
Known as Waterfall Country, the upland streams and gorges of the River Neath valley have created some of the most stunning natural landscapes in Wales, cascading through unspoilt woodland. Some of the best waterfalls are in the north of the valley in the Brecon Beacons near Pontneddfechan, particularly Sgwd yr Eira with its footpath behind the rushing water, and also Aberdulais Falls further to the south near Neath.
The Afan Forest Park is another area of outstanding beauty in the region, with peaceful woodland walks and panoramic hilltop views, and very popular with walkers and mountain bikers.
Further towards the coast are the more populated areas, with towns such as Pontardawe, historic Neath with its 13th century castle, and the large industrial centre of Port Talbot.
