Pontardawe is a small traditional Welsh town in the Swansea Valley.
Set on the River Tawe, the town was built on coal and tin mining. Visitors can explore this fascinating past in historic industrial sites such as the nearby Cefn Coed Colliery Museum.
It also has a proud cultural heritage and is home to the Pontardawe Arts Centre, a splendid Edwardian building hosting a vibrant programme of events. The Riverside centre is a new cultural hub with a great range of events such as food and craft fairs, guided walks and family fun.
The area is also surrounded by picturesque scenery, particularly moving north towards the upland Brecon Beacons and waterfalls of the Vale of Neath. The historic Swansea canal is also accesible from Pontardawe, and offers scenic walks along the towpath.
