West NorfolkCastle Rising

Castle Rising, was once a port, now the sea is further out!

There is a ruined Norman castle on a Roman site with rooms and galleries reached by a dramatic staircase. Edward III locked his mother up here, after killing her lover (!). Large earthworks.

An attractive village, with the  local church, St Lawrence, having a famous Norman West porch, and also has some almshouses.
