West NorfolkKing's Lynn

King's Lynn, a commercially historic town on the River Ouse as it meanders out the Wash. A long history of seafarers, a local man called George Vancover explored NW America.

After two Roman markets in Norman times, the medieval merchants built warehouses and influenced the remaining buildings in the town. The old walls show how the town has expanded, once one of the largest in England.. There are two Guildhalls (15th Century), and a Customs House built by Henry Bell when he was mayor in 1683.

The town has a huge parish church, 15th century, with famous, and the biggest, collection of memorial brasses.

It is still a working port, and glass is made locally at Wedgwood Glass.

Market on Tuesdays. King's Lynn Festival in July.
