Irvine tourist information

Irvine is a historic coastal town, set on the mainland opposite the Isle of Arran.

Built on the shipping industry, the town retains historic buildings linking the modern town with its seafaring heritage. The Scottish Maritime Museum on the harbourside houses a collection of exhibits explaining the maritime industries that were so vital to Scotland's growth and importance, including a number of boats open to visitors.

Also on the redeveloped harbourside are some attractive new developments, the Harbour Arts Centre and the Magnum Centre, one of the largest leisure centres in Scotland.

The noted Scottish poet Robert Burns lived here for a short time in the late 18th century, and the town boasts the oldest active Burns club in Scotland, with its own museum.

Near Irvine is scenic Eglinton Country Park, formerly a large country estate complete with ruined castle and perfect for walking, wildlife watching and just enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

There is a tourist information centre in the town.
