The sleepy caostal town of Largs has everything you would expect and want from a traditional seaside resort, from fairground rides and amusement arcades to enjoying an ice cream on the promenade.
Largs also has a harbour and marina, with ferry services running regularly to the island of Great Cumbrae just offshore. The famous paddle steamer Waverley also runs excursions from Largs to the Isle of Bute in the summer season.
Other family-orientated attractions include Kelburn Castle Country Centre & Estate and the Vikingar! leisure complex and Viking experience, telling the story of Largs's more turbulent past culminating in the battle of Largs in 1263 when the invaders were defeated. A distinctive pencil tower monument to the battle was built in 1912 and is a feature of the shoreline.
