The small village of Abbots Leigh is located between Portishead and Bristol.
In September 1651 Charles II sheltered at a manor house in the village (also known as Abbots Leigh) after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester. This was the finest house at which the King rested during his escape to France but it was demolished in the early 19th century.
To the east of the village stand Leigh Woods. This 494 acre area of diverse ancient broadleaved woodland encompass the Avon Gorge Nature Reserve.
