Berwick
upon Tweed
|
|
| Berwick
upon Tweed, the northernmost town in England!
Sometimes Scottish, sometimes English over the years as the
border fighting which started with the Romans and ended in
the 15th century continued.
A Norman castle remains still exist and the town walls, re-built
in Elizabethan times, survive and completely surrounding
the old town.
Information centre in the town.
The River Tweed meets the sea here at Tweedmouth, and the
town has pleasant walks along the river with three bridges
in close succession.
