West NorthumberlandHexham

Hexham, an attractive old town aside the River Tyne with a market, good as a centre for Hadrian's Wall modern day explorers.

There are old houses around the market square, near the abbey, including the Moot Hall and the 14th century Manor Office, which used to be the town gaol.

Horse racing at nearby Hexham racetrack.

Tourist bus runs along to several sites on Hadrian's Wall, Tel: 01434 605225

Hexham Abbey, first built 648 by St Wilfrid, a crypt remains, present abbey is 12th century with a 15th century hall used as a council chamber until 1838 , shop etc.
