Bedale
|
|
|
Bedale, a busy
little market town, there has been a market here since it
was granted a Market Charter by Henry III in 1251. The market
is still held here on Tuesdays.
Quite a lot of shops
plus the added bonus of free parking at present.
The town was prosperous
in the 1700's and most buildings date from this period onwards,
buildings of note include Bedale Hall, a Georgian house improved
in the late 1700's. At the back of Amen House, built around
1770, is an unusual Ice House, built underground to preserve
food, although not open to the public.
