North YorkshireFiley

Filey, a traditional, quite, seaside holiday resort, with 5 miles of sand, developed in the 19th century, from a fishing hamlet, and the crescents and gardens are still here today having changed little over the years since the writer Charlotte Bronte spent her holidays here. Take a stroll in Glen Gardens.

Fishermen still go out from the town from Coble Landing, the centre of fishing in Filey.

The parish church, St Oswald, is perched on the cliffs, and dates from the 12th century, and is dedicated to the patron saint of fishermen, with a Fishermen’s Window.

Famous once for its large Butlins holiday camp, now closed, it is a popular resort in the summer.

Out and about bird life can be seen at the 'Brigg', a rocky outcrop which was once a Roman Signal Station. Bempton Cliffs, just down the A165
