Harrogate,
the Victorian spa town with its Royal Pump Room and Baths
based on sulphur wells, still retains a gentile calm and a
well-kept look. The spa town was one of the biggest in Europe
during Victorian times with thousands of visitors taking the
waters or undergoing "treatments".
Elegant buildings
and hotels complement the modern International Centre in the
middle of the town, with its exhibition halls and theatre.
Good shops and a feeling
of space in this town, where you can find good gardens, spacious
parks, including the large 200 acre "The Stray",
and floral displays as well as modern art scattered around.
Gets busy when the
exhibition halls are in use.
You could try the
Turkish Baths in the Assembly Rooms.
