N YorkshireHelmsley

Helmsley, on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Moors on the River Rye, is an attractive and popular market town and a good stop when visiting the area's attractions. It's also the start of the Cleveland Way so gets popular with walkers.

Helmsley still has the market, held on Friday's in the main square, with its statue of Lord Feversham. The current Fevershams live in the Vanbrugh built mansion, Dumcombe Park, on the edge of the village, near the 12th century ruined castle.

The church is worth a visit as it has a letter written by David Livingston when he was in Africa.
