Ripon N YorkshireKnaresborough

Knaresborough, a nice town in a dramatic location where the River Nidd cuts through a gorge. There is a large railway bridge across the gorge, and the best views are from the castle.

The town is famous as the birthplace of Mother Skipton in 1488, who foretold the future, including, correctly, that Cardinal Wosley, who travelled to York to be enthroned, would not complete the journey.

In the town is the oldest chemist, and there are walks along the river, where rowing boats are available for hire.

Some nice gardens, including Bebra Gardens and Conyngham Hall grounds which has riverside walks.
