Pickering, a market town on the very edge of the Yorkshire Moors. Monday is market day here, when the town is most busy. Pickering Castle overlooks the town.

An old town the market place was once a village green,

Very popular in the summer as "The Gateway To The Moors" and for visiting the Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway.

Pubs and restaurants for evenings out, and the lively town has events throughout the year, it even has a little theatre.

Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life, Bridge Street, Pickering, YO18 8DU, in a Grade II listed Regency mansion, the museum shows local life as it was, in 27 galleries, collection of cameras and photographic equipment, reconstructed rooms and shops, include a dairy, cobblers, village pub, chemist's, and village store, collection of agricultural equipment, important Sidney Smith collection of photographs. North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Pickering Station, Pickering,YO18 7AJ Telephone 01751 472508 , probably one of the main reasons for visiting, steam trains on an 18 mile line between Pickering and the village of Grosmont, through the North York Moors, calling at villages along the way and gives access to the countryside for walkers and cyclists. One of the most historic lines, opened in May 1836. You can alight at Goathland, the setting for the popular TV series 'Heartbeat' so it gets busy.
