N YorkshireSettle

Settle, a market town since 1249, the market is held on Tuesday's, to the south of the Moors. An excellent walking base with walks around the area to enjoy the limestone scenery, including Castleberg Rock which towers above the town

Every May, on the Saturday and Sunday following the May Bank Holiday on the first Monday in May, the town holds the Settle Sheep Shambles, a two day gala event based on sheep.

Shops, pubs and cafes in the town, close to the station on the famous scenic Settle-Carlisle railway route. At the centre of the town is the Shambles, a 3-storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall.

Neighbouring Gigglewick, across the River Ribble, houses the famous public school with its copper dome, where Russell Harty was a teacher , now he lies buried in the churchyard. Gigglewck is also famous for its limestone cliffs at Giggleswick Scar.
