The large and oddly-shaped north island of Sanday has a particularly beautiful coastline of bays, inlets, wide beaches, sand flats and dunes, which have earned it its appropriate name.
These wonderful marine habitats are perfect for walking, relaxing and wildlife-watching. Both common and grey seals are found here, along with a wealth of other species such as seabirds, porpoises and otters, which thrive in these unspoilt surroundings.
The main village on Sanday is the traditional fishing port of Kettletoft. Nearby is Quoyness Chambered Cairn, the largest and best preserved of the large number of historic sites on the island, which include burial sites and settlements from the Neolithic period onward.
