South OxfordshireAbingdon

Abingdon, is on the River Thames, and was the county town of Berkshire until part of Oxfordshire in 1974, so it retains some impressive buildings, with all the facilities of a market town.

With historical connections to the local abbey, there are old buildings dating from the 15th century that still survive including the chapel of St Johnıs Hospital, a refuge for travellers, and almshouses around  St Helen's Church.

Abingdon has a Tourist Information Centre. Tel: 01235 522711
