Abingdon

Abingdon, is on the River Thames, and was the county town of Berkshire until part of Oxfordshire in 1974, so it retains some impressive buildings, with all the facilities of a market town. With historical connections to the local abbey, there are old buildings dating from the 15th century that still survive including the chapel of St Johnąs Hospital, a refuge for travellers, and almshouses around St Helen's Church. Oxford Universiy Arboretum, Nuneham Courtney, A415 then A423 towards Oxford, set in 55 acres

Abbey Buildings, Thames Street, parts of the original abbey, granary, exchequer and long gallery, Tel: 01235 525339.
