Chipping Norton, is in the Cotswolds, a popular tourist destination with its buildings constructed of the famous yellow Cotswold Stone.
There is a 700 foot high market place, almshouses, as well as a good parish church with brasses.
The town was founded on the wealth from the wool trade, and is now popular with tourists and locals alike.
The word Chipping actually means 'cheapening' or a market, now you know !
Lots of villages to look around, including Stow on The Wold and Moreton-in-the-Marsh, over in Gloucestershire. You can also try a visit to Great Tew which is a nice village off the A361, east of Chipping Norton, with its 17th & 18th century stone cottages and some thatched houses. Shipton-under-Wychwood, just south on the A361, is also worth a look for the houses around the classic English village green.
