Haverfordwest tourist information

Haverfordwest is Pembrokeshire's largest town, an attractive and historic market and port set on the River Cleddau.

Picturesque Haverfordwest castle dates mainly from the 13th century, now an interesting ruined monument to medieval conflict set high above the town. The recently excavated Augustinian priory also dates from this time, and finds from these historic sites are amongst the collections at the local Haverfordwest museum.

The town has long been an important settlement, but it gained prosperity from river and sea trading with Bristol, particularly in the 18th century, and many fine buildings date back to this period. There are also interesting cottages on the Quay area, and two fine old bridges crossing the river.

The town is just a short distance from some wonderful coastal scenery. Particularly lovely are the pretty fishing village of Littlehaven and the fantastic wide sandy beach at Broad Haven. Or take a trip to the rugged islands of Skomer and Skokholm, both accessible by boat from Martins Haven on the beautiful Dale Peninsula.

Days Out around Haverfordwest.

Off to the beaches and coast of this area of Pembrokeshire, great choice either to the north, or south.
