The lovely pass of Killiecrankie is a steep wooded gorge cut by the River Garry. Its beauty has been much admired over the centuries, by such notable figures as Robert Burns and Queen Victoria, and has seen scores of visitors since come to admire the scenery as a result.
However, its most famous episode was in 1689, when it witnessed a bloody battle between the Jacobites and the English army. Despite being significantly outnumbered, the Jacobites won the day, and the history of the battle at Killiecrankie is now commemorated in an exhibition within the National Trust for Scotland visitor centre. Visitors can also visit the Soldier's Leap, where one of the government's troops escaped by jumping over what looks like an impossibly wide span between the rocks.
Next to Killiecrankie pass is the beautiful Linn Of Tummel, a series of rapids and waterfalls, which are just some of the highlights of this scenic area with its Highland landscape of hills, mountains, forests and lochs.
