The pleasant and traditional market town of Builth Wells is set on the beautiful River Wye, with its lovely stone bridge dating from 1779.
One of the spa towns of mid-Wales, Builth Wells was popularised in the Victorian era when it became fashionable to 'take the waters' to promote one's health. As a result it has many attractive Victorian and Edwardian buildings that date from its heyday, and some interesting and individual shops and amenities.
The Wyeside Arts Centre is the cultural centre of the town, hosting leading names in music, theatre and comedy. However, the town is perhaps best known for the Royal Welsh Show, which takes place every summer and attracts many thousands of visitors to the showground for a huge variety of displays and activities.
