The handsome town of Crickhowell is located in the extreme south of Powys, in the scenic Brecon Beacons National Park.
Set on the beautiful river Usk, the town has a wealth of attractive buildings, shops, pubs and tearooms - and a distinctive 17th century stone bridge crossing the rushing water.
Busy with tourists in the summer season, it is also an ideal base to explore the fantastic scenery of the Brecon Beacons and the Usk valley, or just take a stroll in the town's lovely Bullpit Meadows alongside the river. The town caters for all abilities in its annual walking festival every March.
Crickhowell also has historic attractions. The ruined castle dates from the 13th century, and there are some good views from the top of its grassy mound. Close by is the wonderful Tretower Court and Castle, a 12th century stone castle set alongside a splendid and well preserved medieval mansion.
