Montgomery is a charming small town close to the Welsh-English border, set among scenic rolling hills, and with some lovely historic timber framed buildings set around the market square.
The town is also notable for its magnificent ruined castle, built in the 13th century in a commanding position overlooking the surrounding countryside, now also offering the 21st century visitor some great views. Ruined Dolforwyn Castle is also nearby. You can learn more about the interesting history of this border area in the Old Bell Museum, set in a 16th century inn.
The Georgian town hall is also an attractive feature of the town, topped with an clock. Events are held here throughout the year.
The Montgomery Canal, currently being restored to its former glory, is also popular for walking and wildlife-watching.
