Johnstone is a pleasant small, traditional, Scottish town. It was developed as a planned community in the industrial revolution set around Ludovic and Houston Squares, the latter boasting a fine Victorian bandstand.
The town has a history of coal mining and, in common with much of Renfrewshire, cotton and thread-making as part of the Paisley area textile industries. You can learn about the heritage of this area of Scotland in the Johnstone History Museum, unusually hosted within the local branch of the supermarket giant Morrisons.
