Lochwinnoch is a pretty and individual small town set in rural Renfrewshire countryside, amid the beautiful open waters of the surrounding lakes of Castle Semple and Barr Lochs.
Part of the Clyde Muirshall Regional Park, Castle Semple Country Park is the highlight of this area, with a wide range of outdoor activities on offer. As well as walking around the beautiful lakes, woodland and moors, you can hire bikes, go boating on the loch, or simply relax in the cafe and shop located in the visitor centre. Castle Semple Collegiate Church is a hidden gem of the park, an unusual ruined 15th century church in a tranquil rural setting.
The RSPB also maintain a wildlife reserve at nearby Barr Loch, important for its wetland species such as great crested grebe, kingfisher and otters.
