A traditional and historic fishing port, Eyemouth is popular with visitors for its attractive harbour and sandy beach. The town has a labyrinthine network of streets and alleys that were home to a notorious smuggling community in centuries past.
The town remembers its fishing heritage in Eyemouth Museum, including a impressive tapestry commemorating a tragic disaster in 1881 when nearly 200 fishermen were drowned in a storm, 129 of which were from this small town.
Eyemouth is a good base to explore this coastline with its harbour villages, using the Berwickshire Coastal Path.
Visitor attractions nearby include Paxton House, run by the National Galleries of Scotland, which houses a large collection of Chippendale furniture.
