Once home to Mary, Queen of Scots, Jedburgh has a fascinating history and some beautiful historic sites.
The most notable feature of this attractive town in the spectacular Jedburgh Abbey. This was destroyed like so many in the reformation, and is now a romantic ruin.
Known as the gateway to Scotland, this frontier town saw more conflict in cross-border wars in the medieval period than most, the town and Abbey being burnt three times in the 15th century alone. In the 16th Century Mary Queen of Scots took up residence in the town in Queen Street, now a visitor centre telling her story.
There are a number of other attractions nearby, including Ferniehirst Castle and several country parks such as Jedforest Deer and Farm Park.
