A charming small town, Cromarty sits on the Black Isle at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth.
The attractive buildings date mainly from the 18th century, and were built alongside the older fisher cottages during this time of prosperity. Visitors can enjoy a stroll around the picturesque town with its numerous cafes and interesting shops. The town also has 2 museums - the Cromarty Courthouse and one dedicated to the local author and geologist Hugh Miller.
The heart of Cromarty is its attractive fishing harbour, which operates a seasonal ferry service. The area is famous for its wild dolphins, and Ecoventures at The Dolphin Centre offers wildlife-watching boat trips for those who would like a closer look at the wonderful sea life.
The Cromarty Firth is also a haven for seabirds. The RSPB reserve at nearby Udale Bay is home to thousands of resident and visiting wildfowl and waders on this beautiful and remote marshland.
