Gateway to the Isle of Skye, Kyle of Lockalsh was once the ferry port for boats to the island, but visitors can now use the modern bridge.
The town itself is a pleasant fishing port with good rail links. It is an excellent base for exploring the Western Highlands, and it has a tourist information centre.
Many visitors come to see the nearby famous Eilean Donan Castle, in an idyllic setting on its own island at the confluence of three sea lochs. One of the most photographed castles in the world, it has also featured in many films, including Highlander and The World is Not Enough.
There are many things to see and do in the local area. The nearby village of Plockton is a pretty seaside resort popular for visitors. Boat trips run from the harbour in the summer months to view seals along the coastline. Just to the north over the dramatic pass of Bealach na Ba is the lovely Applecross penninsula
