Nairn is an attractive seaside resort, with lovely sandy beaches and a reputation for above average sunshine.
The town was originally a fishing harbour, but became a popular spa resort in the Victorian era. The old fishing cottages share the town with fine 19th century buildings that date from this boom time, making Nairn an interesting and attractive place to visit. The Nairn Museum details the history of the local area.
This stretch of coastline offers some wonderful scenery and opportunities for enjoying the natural history of the area, such as RSPB Culbin Sands Nature Reserve, home to a huge variety of bird species.
There are also 2 Championship Golf Courses on the coast in Nairn itself, and many more within a short drive of the town.
Nearby attractions include Fort George, an immense brick-built fortress complex little-changed since it was built in the 18th century, and Cawdor Castle, a beautiful fairytale castle dating from the 14th century.
If you need more things to do, the Nairn tourist information centre is in King Street.
