Tongue tourist information
The attractive coastal village of Tongue has Norse origins, the name meaning a tongue, or spit, of land protruding out into the sea loch - the Kyle of Tongue.
Dominated by rugged mountains such as Ben Loyal and Ben Hope, there is a wealth of wild, open scenery to enjoy. Walking, hiking, climbing, bird-watching and horse-riding and fishing are all popular local activities.
The lovely Caisteal Bharraigh is a ruined castle on a rocky hill overlooking the Kyle of Tongue. It is thought to be a 14th century fortress built on the site of a Norse fort.
