Wick is the largest town in the far North East of Scotland, and once the county town of Caithness.
A fine fishing town which prospered in the Victorian Era due to the boom in the herring industry, it is the ideal base to explore this otherwise lonely and wild part of Scotland.
You can discover more about the ancient Norse history of the area at the nearby Northlands Viking Centre, and Wick also has an excellent heritage centre telling the story of the town and its proud fishing past. There is also a small tourist information centre in the town.
Just north of Wick towards John O'Groats you find the dramatic ruined Keiss Castle, perched precariously on the cliff edge.
