Remote and lovely Fetlar is one of Shetland's North Isles, and reached by ferry from the neighbouring island of Yell.
The island has a peaceful landscape of rolling hills and moorland, and a beautiful rugged coastline of cliffs, rocks and arches over clear waters. There are also lovely beaches, notably the long golden sands at Tresta. This unspoilt countryside is home to abundant wildlife, particularly seals, seabirds and wading birds such as the Red-necked Phalarope, best seen at the RSPB Mires of Funzie nature reserve.
In common with the other Shetland Islands, Fetlar has a wonderfully rich history dating back many thousands of years. The island is compact and perfect for walking, and you can visit stone circles and remains of Norse settlements on your way.
The Fetlar Interpretive Centre in the main village of Houbie has an exhibition on island life past and present.
