Yell is the second largest Shetland island, and one of the North Isles, located just a short ferry journey north of Toft on the Mainland.
The island has a relatively large population, but away from the main settlements has a wild and remote character, ideal for getting away from it all.
The scenic landscape is a diverse mixture of hills, moorland, peat bog, and an intricate coastline boasting some beautiful golden sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs. It is well known for its wildlife, especially seabirds and a thriving otter population, which can often be seen fishing along the shoreline.
For those in need of a bit more company, the friendly local community on Yell host a range of social events throughout the year, mainly centred on the largest settlement of Mid Yell.
Activities on the island include the heritage and arts centres at the Old Haa and Bayanne House, and a range of activities at the Centre for Creative Industries.
