SomersetChard

Chard, small town in a farming area on the border with Devon.

After the failed Monmouth rebellion in 1685 Judge Jefferies held his Bloody Assize here in the former manor house.

The building is still here, near the Elizabethan Guildhall, and you can visit the courtroom.

The church and the Choughs Inn are worth a visit, probably in that order.
