SomersetCheddar

Cheddar, one of the most famous of places, the original home of the very English Cheddar Cheese.

Today the village is a small town, and gets very busy in summer, with its tea shops and cheese shops. There is a nice church though, 15th century.

The village is sited next to Cheddar Gorge which cuts through the limestone of the Mendip Hills. The area is famous for the caves and potholes, which have weird and wonderful natural formations created by the water dripping through the limestone.

The B3135 runs straight through the gorge and there are walks from the town which go along the top of the gorge, George Walk, to a viewpoint, which can be reached by climbing the steps of Jacob's Ladder.

There is a Tourist Information Centre in the town.
