Ilminster
|
|
| Ilminster,
the town is now bypassed, leaving its streets quite of the heavy
traffic that used to roar through the town.
The name is derived
from the local river, the Ile and its church, or minster,
which dominates the town. Once a stop on the stage-coach reach,
the town had a canal, only traces of this remain.
The church, 15th century
is its glory, built on a Saxon site. Buildings in the town
range from the 15th century to the 19th.
