SomersetYeovil

Yeovil, a large town on the East Somerset border.

Probably best known locally as the home of Westland Helicopters, this market town was mentioned in the Domesday book.

Lots of  facilities with local golf, swimming, fishing, a rather good theatre, cinema and parks.

It still holds holds a weekly cattle market.

Museum of South Somerset Hendford, Yeovil is in the centre of Yeovil, opposite the Tourist Information Centre, refurbished, rural life of the county housed in a former coach house, displays of  fossils, firearms, glassware and costume, local industry, a reconstructed Roman dining room and kitchen   with original mosaics,Tel: 01935 24774 Open: Tue to Sat, 10am - 4pm

Open:Apr-Oct Wed-Mon 11:00-17:00 the nearby village is worth a stroll around with the remains of a Norman Priory.
 
East Coker, a small village, south of the town west off the A37, is famous as T S Elliot's is buried here.

Priory, A3088 to Stoke Sub Hamdon, 15th century priory, thatched barn is left.
 
Ham Hill Country Park, A3088 to Stoke Sub Hamdon, 140 acres, woods and grass, with stone quarries that used to supply the area, now make good view points.
