The very pretty town of Biggar is located in the less populated East of this area, among scenic rolling farmland ideal for walking.
This ancient town has some attractive buildings and shops, as well as a surprisingly high number of museums - the Moat Park Heritage Centre, Gladstone Court, Brownsbank Cottage, Greenhill Covenanters House, and Biggar Gasworks Museum. The Biggar Museum Trust oversees these attractions, which cover many aspects of local history and its notable links with famous Scots such as William Wallace and Bonnie Prince Charlie, and more modern figures such as the poet Hugh Mcdiarmid.
The Biggar tourist information centre is in the High Street.
