Bothwell is an attractive small town situated on the River Clyde between Glasgow and Hamilton.
The town centre is a pleasant place to visit in its own right, but it is best known for the remains of the magnificent Bothwell Castle, Scotland's largest and most impressive 13th century stronghold. This mighty fortification has seen many battles and sieges in it's long history and is now ruined, but much remains to give a good idea of its former power, notably the massive circular Donjon.
The nearby David Livingstone Centre is a museum dedicated to the Victorian explorer who found fame for opening up what was then considered the 'dark continent' of Africa. The museum is set within the mill buildings where Livingstone grew up in poverty, now surrounded by beautiful parkland and woodland.
