StaffordshirePerton

Perton grew up as a long line of exclusive houses set along the road from Wolverhampton to Patterham.

Known as Perton Ridge, the area's name derives from 'Pear Town' (a reference to the pear trees that once grew there).

In the 1970s and 80s housing development took place on a former RAF station adjacent to Wolverhampton and this area is known as Perton.

Although Perton lies very close to Wolverhampton it is not considered to be a suburb.

The only direct road from Perton to Wolverhampton is restricted to buses and emergency services and the detour for motorists makes the city seem much further away than it actually is!

The annual 'Tough Guy Competition' is held in Perton. Organised by a former British Army officer, this event is claimed to be the world's toughest one day survival ordeal.
