The small
town of Banstead lies on the North Downs to the east
of Epsom.
Although
the town is situated near the border with Greater London it
is protected by the Green Belt and has retained its rural
atmosphere.
Banstead's
long High Street boasts over 100 shops and has continental
atmosphere.
The west
window of the 12th century parish church of All Saints was
designed by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and produced by William
Morris.
Morden
Hall Park, five miles from the town, is an oasis in the
suburbs of London for visitors and locals. The
River Wandle meanders through 125 acres of parkland and is
crossed by a variety of bridges. An old Snuff Mill is now
used as an environmental centre and the park has workshops
for local craftsmen, a city farm and garden centre. Owned
by the National Trust, the park also boasts old estate buildings,
hay meadows and a beautiful rose garden.
