SurreyCobham

Cobham, 20 miles to the south-west of London, lies on the River Mole , a tributary of the River Thames.

An ancient settlement, Cobham's history can be dated back through the Romans to the Iron Age.

The town's best known landmark is an early-19th century watermill, set on the picturesque banks of the river.  This charming red-brick building, standing on the site of earlier medieval mills, has been fully restored and is open to the public on certain days of the month.

In 2005 Chelsea FC moved its training ground to Stoke D'Abernon on the outskirts of the town and as a result house prices in Cobham have risen dramatically.

The main highlight of the area for viistors is Painshill Park

Near Cobham are Oakham and Wisley Commons, designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and part of a European Special Protection Area.

Oakham Common has rare heathland and in the summer is known for its wonderful purple heather.

Wisley Common is wetter and has many species of wetland plants and birds.  Both areas have a large population of damselflies and dragonflies. Nearby is RHS Wisley
