The historic town of Blaenavon is a recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site, exemplifying the famous coal and iron industrial heritage of South Wales.

There are a wealth of attractions transporting the visitor back to the heyday of mining and iron and steel production that made Blaenavon one of the powerhouses of the British industrial revolution. Start at the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre, with multi-media displays on the fascinating history of the area.

For a more hands-on experience you can descend deep underground into the Big Pit: National Coal Museum, and discover what life was really like for miners in the 19th century. Learn more about the blast furnaces at Blaenavon ironworks and visit the restored workers cottages - and travel by steam train on the Blaenavon Heritage Railway.

Blaenavon is also a Heritage Town, with restored shopfronts adding to the historic, traditional feel. Here there are a range of shops and cafes, and also a chance to make your own wonderful souvenirs at the Chocs Away workshops, where you can learn the craft of chocolate-making and take home your own hand-crafted treats.
