Barry tourist information

Barry is the largest town in Glamorgan, known for its traditional British seaside holiday entertainments.

Once an important industrial town and dock, the area known as Barry island (now linked to the mainland) developed as a popular holiday destination from the 19th century onwards due to its fantastic sandy beach, promenade, amusements and fairground rides - such as the Barry Island Pleasure Park.

The area has all the ingredients for a great family day out, with further new developments and regeneration projects planned to reinvigorate the waterfront.

The town centre has a large shopping area with plenty of amenities and a wide range of attractions, including the Art Central gallery in the impressive town hall building, Porthkerry Country Park and beach, the Welsh Hawking Centre and nearby Fonmon Castle.

The town was also the setting for the BAFTA award winning comedy series Gavin & Stacey which has introduced a new generation to the resort.
