The genteel cliff-top resort of Penarth is located just across the bay from the city of Cardiff.
The town retains its quiet and refined Victorian atmosphere, with its promenade, recently restored 19th century pier, Art-deco pavilion and Italian pleasure gardens. The splendid Victorian parks leading down to the beach earned it the nickname The Garden by the Sea.
Penarth has some fine Victorian architecture and leafy affluent streets. The marina is an attractive area, especially the splendid Old Custom House which now houses two excellent waterside restaurants. Don't miss the walk along the amazing new barrage to Cardiff Bay - or catch a boat to the city or nearby Flat Holm Island.
Close by is Cosmeston Lakes Country Park and its fantastic reconstructed Medieval Village, showing life as it really was in the 14th century.
