South WarwickshireStratford upon Avon

Stratford upon Avon, birth place of William Shakespeare, and probably the most visited place in Warwickshire.

The town centre has a modern shopping precinct with most chain stores and the old timbered buildings mingle in. It's a case of Shakespeare here, Shakespeare there, Shakespeare everywhere, as the town takes advantage of the connection. Quite a few gift shops.

It gets VERY busy, so come early to beat the rush. The major Shakespeare related houses are owned by the Shakespeare Trust and you can buy a joint ticket.

There are pleasant gardens along the River Avon and the Avon canal, you take a short river boat trip from here, and the restored buildings near the lock has a restaurant and pub complex..

Parking can get difficult in Stratford upon Avon, so try the multi- storey carpark, with a good view from the top.

The Tourist Information centre is on the main road by the gardens, and a commentary tour bus operates in the town..

Along from the gardens is Southern Lane with different old cast-iron lightposts from different towns in England.

Horse racing course.

Things to do and see out and about the town as well.
