The modern town of Alexandria is set within the Vale of Leven and is just a short distance South of the beautiful Loch Lomond and the town of Balloch.
The town has an interesting industrial history, but is perhaps most visited today for its retail opportunities. One of these is the Loch Lomond Outlet Centre, housed within what was the Argyll Motor Works, one of the first motor car factories in the world which opened in 1906. It was also home to a torpedo factory before its current use as a shopping mall. The lovely Edwardian facade survives however, and there is also a heritage museum telling the interesting history of the building.
